We have gone above and beyond to bring you steel body armor of a HIGHER CALIBER.
This can be seen with our bend process, our fragmentation coating and our finishing details. This was the material that we started from and have the most experience with. We’ve seen it, done it, we’ve improved it.
Steel Body Armor provides great protection that can stop multiple projectile hits. We have been working with different levels of abrasion resistant (AR) ballistic steel for years and have not found a better product than our AR550 Steel Body Armor Plates. This armor is rated at a level III+ as it can defeat special threats like M855 rounds.
All of our steel plates come in one ergonomic curve option. We have worked with LE and first responders to design a curve that you can be comfortable wearing. We provide this at no additional cost. What is unique about the way that we bend our steel is important too. We have designed a press that creates a multi curve bend in ONE step. Why is this important? When you do multiple bends to achieve a multi curve, it puts extra strain on the plate which can weaken it. We have replicated the same curves that you have seen in multi curve ceramic armor for years.
Our aggressive Shooters Cut body armor plates shaves off weight while still providing enough coverage to protect your vital organs. Use our CaliberX™ Soft Armor Backers for even more protection and comfort.
Our standard AR550 plate comes coated to protect the plate from rust and the elements. One concern with Steel Armor is fragmentation containment. Some of that fragmentation is contained in the armor’s plate carrier, but there still is a risk of lethal shrapnel. We HIGHLY recommend our Caliber Anti-Spall add on. We have teamed up with our friends at Bullet Liner® to formulate an anti-spall coating specifically for our armor application. This addition to your steel plate gives you peace of mind when wearing steel armor.

Plate rack fun without the plate rack size
When a full-size plate rack is impractical or unaffordable, the Target in a Pail system provides you with all the hardware you need to create your own rack target setup: gongs, hangers, and leg brackets. All you need to supply are the 2”x4” boards for the legs and crossbeam.
We recommend 48” length for the legs and 96” or longer for the cross-member. This puts the rack at a comfortable height and provides enough space between the endplates and the legs to reduce the change of the legs being shot by errant rounds, especially as distances to target become longer.

Also, thanks to the virtues of steel armor, this plate is capable of stopping several shots without shattering or buckling like ceramic and polyethylene alternatives.
The plate is shaped according to the designs of our Advanced Shooter Cut (ASC), with the taper to the top of the plate asymmetrical. This makes using your strong arm easier because of the space given by the cut, making actions like shouldering your rifle easier. This cut comes in both right and left-handed configurations, and any appropriately sized plate will accept it just as well as it would a SAPI or traditional Shooters Cut.
Finally, the FragLock™ sealing from AR500 Armor, which can come either as a Base Coat or as a Build-Up Coat, gives two benefits: First, it acts as a protection from bullet or armor fragments that may come off after a bullet's impact. The Base Coat will normally deflect most of this fragmentation away from you, while the Build-Up Coat will either deflect or capture nearly all of it. Second, it acts as a protection of the plate itself from the elements; thanks to the FragLock™ coating, this plate has a shelf life of twenty years and does not require maintenance. As noted before, the Build-Up Coat protects from fragmentation more than the Base Coat, but it is slightly heavier due to the extra material; the tradeoff is up to you to decide.

AR500 Armor Level III+ Lightweight ALSC Body Armor
The perfect plate if you’re looking for a low-burden and mobile protection solution from AR500 Armor. Whether you’re looking for something comfortable for long hours on duty, or something able to keep up with fast-paced action on the field, the Level III+ Lightweight ALSC (see specifications below) has you covered.
The patented Advanced Lightweight Shooters Cut, which makes the defining difference of this plate, has two main differences from a SAPI or Shooter’s cut: First, the plate tapers to the bottom as well as to the top, making a diamond-shaped design. This allows for free movement of your entire body as well as a significantly lighter overall weight. Second, the plate’s taper on the top is slightly deeper than other cuts, to allow for easier rifle shouldering and other actions. This taper is the same on both sides, making it ambidextrous.
Tested to go above and beyond NIJ Level III standards, the Level III+ ALSC defeats all pistols and most rifle ammunition, including 5.56x45 M193, 5.56x45 M855/SS109 at 3,000 FPS as well as AK-47 rounds (7.62x39) and .308 (7.62x51 M80 NATO Ball) at 2,850 FPS. Also, thanks to steel’s special properties, it is able to protect against several hits without shattering or breaking like ceramic or polyethylene would. It also provides the same protection on the edges as it does in the center, giving you true edge-to-edge coverage.
The FragLock™ Coating, available in both Base Coat and Build-Up Coat versions, is a feature of AR500 Armor plates that protects both the user and the plate itself. It protects the user by helping either capture or deflect fragmentation (a bullet’s fragments after impact) and spalling (the armor’s fragments after impact). The Build-Up Coat is a thicker seal which does this better than the Base Coat, although both do it to a degree. The FragLock™ also protects the plate by sealing it from the elements, which could otherwise corrode the plate. With either version of the FragLock™ Coating, this plate has a shelf life of twenty years and requires no maintenance.
