Benefits of polyethylene compared to other armor materials
When it comes to concealable body armor, polyethylene (PE) has some major advantages over other common materials like kevlar, ceramic, and steel. PE is much lighter and thinner than ceramic or steel plates while still being able to stop most common threats. A Level IIIA polyethylene vest weighs around 1.2 pounds per square foot compared to 5-8 lbs/sqft for steel or ceramic. Polyethylene armor is also more flexible and breathable than hard armor plates, making it far more comfortable for extended wear.
